Pakistan: National Assembly Member Ali Pervaiz Elected as State Minister

Ali Pervaiz, a Member of Pakistan’s National Assembly, was sworn in as a Minister of State on Saturday, as reported by Dawn. The oath was administered by Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari at Aiwan-i-Sadr.

The ceremony was attended by various dignitaries, including Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, parliamentarians, and other officials, according to Dawn’s report.

Ali Pervaiz secured his seat as an MNA from Lahore’s NA-119 constituency in the 2024 general elections under the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) banner.

Following the general elections, Pakistan has experienced ongoing protests and rallies amid allegations of electoral irregularities and rigging. The Pakistan Institute of Legislative Development and Transparency (PILDAT) reported a decline in fairness scores compared to previous election cycles, citing issues such as political repression, disruptions in mobile and internet services during polling, delays in result announcements, and other procedural delays by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

This assessment by PILDAT was based on an independent analysis and feedback from various stakeholders, including politicians, lawyers, activists, retired bureaucrats, military officials, and politically aware individuals.
