Australia skipper Mitchell Marsh expressed confidence in their selected squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024, stating they have assembled the ideal 15-member team for the ICC tournament. The announcement of the squad came on Wednesday, with left-arm spinner Ashton Agar making a return despite not featuring in a T20I since the last T20 World Cup in Australia in 2022.

All-rounders Marcus Stoinis and Cameron Green also secured spots in the final squad, despite inconsistent performances in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL), according to ICC sources. Marsh, who will lead the team, conveyed his satisfaction with the chosen players during an interview with Australia’s radio station SEN, expressing hope that they would make a significant impact in the T20 World Cup.

He emphasized that the team has covered all bases, addressing the exclusion of youngster Jake Fraser-McGurk from the squad. Marsh lauded the contributions of Travis Head and David Warner, highlighting their importance for the upcoming tournament. Additionally, he praised Fraser-McGurk as an exceptional talent.

Notably, veteran batter Steve Smith, Fraser-McGurk, experienced seamer Jason Behrendorff, and all-rounder Matt Short were left out of the squad. Australia will kick off their T20 World Cup campaign against Oman in Barbados on June 5, followed by Group B matches against England, Namibia, and Scotland.

The squad comprises Ashton Agar, Pat Cummins, Tim David, Nathan Ellis, Cameron Green, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Mitchell Marsh (C), Josh Inglis, Glenn Maxwell, Mitchell Starc, Marcus Stoinis, Matthew Wade, David Warner, and Adam Zampa.
