Janata Dal (Secular) MP and candidate from Hassan, Prajwal Revanna, who is under scrutiny in connection with an alleged sexual abuse case involving multiple women, has expressed his inability to join the investigation. He has requested seven days’ time to appear before the Special Investigation Team (SIT), citing his absence from Bangalore.
In a statement, Prajwal said, “As I am not in Bangalore to attend the enquiry, I have communicated to CID Bangalore through my Advocate. Truth will prevail soon.”
The Karnataka government formed an SIT to probe videos allegedly implicating Prajwal Revanna in acts of sexual abuse. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah initiated the investigation after receiving a letter from the State Commission for Women (SCW) alleging that “influential politicians sought sexual favours” and “raped some of them.” However, the police have confirmed that Revanna is currently out of the country.
Prajwal, the grandson of former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda and son of former minister and JD(S) leader H D Revanna, contested the Hassan Lok Sabha constituency as the BJP-JD(S) candidate against Congress’s Shreyas M Patel on April 26.
Amidst the scandal involving numerous videos allegedly showing him abusing multiple women, Prajwal is reported to be in Germany. He left just a day after the polling for the Hassan Lok Sabha seat and days before the allegations surfaced.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, requesting the Central government to revoke Prajwal Revanna’s diplomatic passport and take steps to ensure his return, describing him as “absconding” and urging the use of diplomatic and police channels for his repatriation.
