Assam: Pijush Hazarika Pauses Speech During Namaz at Nearby Mosque

In a show of respect, Assam minister and BJP leader Pijush Hazarika paused during his public speech when Namaz was being recited at a nearby Mosque during an election rally in Baksa district. The incident, captured in a video shared by the BJP leader, demonstrated a moment of reverence as Hazarika paused while the Namaz was being recited nearby.

Baksa, located in lower Assam, falls under the Kokrajhar Lok Sabha constituency. The region is gearing up for the third phase of Lok Sabha polls scheduled for May 7, which will see four constituencies, including Barpeta, Dhubri, Guwahati, and Kokrajhar, going to polls. These four seats are crucial for both BJP and Congress, with BJP aiming to maximize its seat tally in the state as part of its national target, while Congress seeks to make gains despite internal challenges in the state unit.

The third phase constituencies have a sizable Muslim population, and BJP is making efforts to reach out to this demographic. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has emphasized in his campaign that the Modi-led government has treated all sections of society equally, highlighting the government’s inclusive schemes and programs that have benefitted all communities, including Muslims.

In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, BJP secured 7 out of the 14 seats in Assam. In 2019, BJP increased its seat count to 9, while Congress maintained its three seats, and AIUDF won a single seat.
