Archery World Cup 2024: India shines with eight medals

The Indian men’s recurve team comprising Tarundeep Rai, Pravin Jadhav, and Dhiraj Bommadevara clinched a gold medal at the ongoing Archery World Cup 2024 in Shanghai, while Deepika Kumari secured a silver in the women’s individual recurve event. Additionally, Ankita Bhakat and Dhiraj Bommadevara claimed a bronze in the mixed team recurve event. Overall, India concluded the tournament with an impressive tally of eight medals: five golds, two silvers, and one bronze. On a previous day, Indian compound archers also shone, securing five medals including four golds.

In the men’s recurve event, the Indian team defeated Republic of Korea’s strong lineup, marking India’s first gold medal in this category in 14 years. The mixed team event saw Ankita and Dhiraj securing a comfortable bronze against Mexico.

Deepika Kumari’s return to international archery saw her clinching a silver medal in the women’s individual recurve event. She dominated in the semifinals but fell short in the final against South Korea’s Lim Sihyeon. This marked Deepika’s second consecutive medal since her comeback, contributing to India’s historic performance at the Archery World Cup Stage 1 in Shanghai.
