IndiGo orders 30 wide-body A350 planes

IndiGo, India’s largest airline, recently made a significant announcement regarding its fleet expansion. The airline, known for its extensive operations with narrow-body Airbus aircraft and a couple of Boeing 777 planes leased from Turkish Airlines, is now venturing into the wide-body aircraft segment. IndiGo has placed an order for 30 wide-body A350-900 planes, a move aimed at bolstering its international presence.

These newly ordered aircraft will be powered by Rolls Royce’s Trent XWB engine, known for its reliability and efficiency. The airline plans to commence the delivery of these A350 planes from 2027 onwards. What’s notable is that this marks IndiGo’s first foray into wide-body planes, as it has primarily operated narrow-body Airbus aircraft in the past.

IndiGo’s decision to order the A350-900s comes with strategic foresight. Alongside the firm order for 30 planes, IndiGo has also secured purchase rights for an additional 70 Airbus A350 family aircraft. This flexibility allows the airline to cater to potential future needs and market demands.

This recent move follows IndiGo’s previous milestone in June last year when it placed the largest-ever single aircraft order in aviation history, securing 500 aircraft from Airbus. With a growing fleet that currently spans over 350 aircraft, IndiGo continues to position itself as a major player in the Indian and global aviation industry.
