Shubman Gill to Play His 100th IPL Game as Gujarat and Delhi Lock Horns Today

As Shubman Gill steps onto the field for Gujarat Titans (GT) against Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in the Indian Premier League (IPL) match on Wednesday, it marks his 100th appearance in this lucrative league.

GT and DC are set for a face-off in a mid-table battle in Delhi. In their previous encounter, Delhi convincingly defeated Gujarat, restricting the 2022 champions to a mere 89 runs and chasing it down comfortably. While GT triumphed over Punjab Kings in their last league match, DC suffered a heavy defeat to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).

Since his debut with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) following his success at the ICC U19 World Cup, Gill has swiftly established a remarkable IPL career. In 99 matches, he has amassed 3,088 runs at an average of 38.12 and a strike rate of 138.12, including three centuries and 20 half-centuries. Gill ranks as the league’s 25th highest run-scorer to date.

Representing KKR from 2018 to 2021, Gill flourished under the franchise’s guidance, showcasing his potential early on and evolving into a key player. He played pivotal roles in KKR’s impressive 2021 season, emerging as their top run-scorer and delivering crucial performances during the knockout stages.

Following his stint with KKR, Gill joined Gujarat Titans in the 2022 season, contributing significantly to their title-winning campaign. He continued to shine in the subsequent seasons, earning accolades such as the ‘Player of the Tournament’ and ‘Orange Cap’ for his exceptional batting displays.

In the current season, Gill has continued his fine form, amassing 298 runs in eight matches at an average of 42.57 and a strike rate of 146.80. His overall IPL record with GT boasts 1,671 runs in 41 innings at an impressive average of 46.42 and a strike rate exceeding 147, with notable contributions including three centuries and 10 half-centuries.

Gill’s achievements at a young age, from promising beginnings to leadership roles and individual awards, indicate his potential to lead Gujarat to further success as captain.
