Kejriwal’s letter to Tihar superintendent alleges political pressure on jail administration

Arvind Kejriwal has written a letter to the superintendent of Tihar Jail. In the letter, the Chief Minister expressed his disappointment after reading the statement of the Tihar administration in the newspapers. He mentioned that both statements from Tihar are false.

He stated that he requests insulin daily and has shown glucose meter readings indicating very high sugar levels three times a day. The sugar levels fluctuate between 250 and 320.

Doctors at AIIMS have never said that there is nothing to worry about. They will explain based on data and history. The administration of Tihar is under political pressure.

The first statement from the Tihar administration claims that Arvind Kejriwal has never raised the issue of insulin. This is completely false. I have been consistently raising the issue of insulin for the past 10 days, multiple times a day. Whenever a doctor came to see me, I informed them that my sugar level was very high. I showed them the reading from the glucose meter, indicating that my sugar level fluctuates between 250 and 320 throughout the day.

The second statement from the Tihar administration claims that I mentioned that my fasting sugar level is consistently between 160 and 200. I have been requesting insulin daily. So, how can you make such a false statement that Kejriwal has never raised the issue of insulin? The second statement from the Tihar administration also claims that doctors at AIIMS assured me that there is nothing to worry about. This is also completely false. Doctors at AIIMS never gave such assurance. They asked for complete data related to my sugar level and health and said they would provide their opinion after reviewing and analyzing the data. I am very disappointed that you have succumbed to political pressure and issued false and misleading statements. I hope you will uphold the law and the constitution. Read the letter.

Addressing a press confrence AAP Minister Atishi called out the Tihar authorities’ claim regarding consultation with AIIMS doctors regarding Arvind Kejriwal’s health. She stated, “Today I want to tell you the truth about the AIIMS doctor. When ED and Tihar administration presented the side of AIIMS doctor, they had not arranged for consultation of Arvind Kejriwal with any doctor of AIIMS.” Atishi revealed that no diabetologist from AIIMS had consulted on Kejriwal’s health, contrary to the authorities’ assertion.

Furthermore, Atishi highlighted that the advice attributed to AIIMS in court filings was not from a diabetologist but from a nutritionist. She presented a diet chart filed by the Tihar administration, claiming it was prescribed by AIIMS specialists to argue against Kejriwal’s insulin intake. However, she pointed out, “If you look at this diet chart, it was not made by any diabetologist, it was just a standard diet chart the ED brought from the Nutrition Department (Department of Dietetics) of AIIMS.” Atishi emphasized that the signatory, Dr. Parmeet Kaur, was a dietician, not a diabetologist or endocrinologist, casting doubt on the authenticity of the advice provided.
