‘Timely intervention improved situation in Manipur’ : PM Modi

According to reports, Prime Minister Narendra Modi claimed on Monday that the state administration’s efforts along with the prompt intervention of the federal government have significantly improved the situation in Manipur.

Modi emphasized, “We have dedicated our best resources and administrative machinery to resolve the conflict.” He underscored the collective responsibility to handle the situation sensitively.

Ethnic tensions between the tribal Kuki and the dominant Meitei communities have plagued Manipur since May. The violence has claimed 219 lives and displaced 60,000 individuals since May 3, as per data released by the state government in February.

Modi highlighted Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s proactive involvement during the peak of the conflict. Shah stayed in Manipur and conducted “15-plus meetings with various stakeholders to help resolve the conflict.” In May, during a three-day visit to the state, Shah engaged with both Meitei and Kuki groups.

Additionally, the prime minister mentioned remedial measures taken, including a financial package aimed at providing relief and rehabilitation to those residing in shelter camps in the state.

Reflecting on the progress, Modi remarked that the North East has emerged as “new India’s greatest success story.”
