With the country all set to see the Covid-19 vaccination drive next week, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold a meeting with the Chief Ministers of all the states. The meeting is likely to be held at 4 pm on Monday, said sources.

In the meeting, PM Modi is expected to discuss the detailed plans to roll out Covid-19 vaccines in all the states, following the Drug Controller General India’s (DCGI) approval for the restricted emergency use of two vaccines Serum Institute’s Covishield and Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin.

On 3 January, Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin and Oxford-AstraZeneca’s Covishield, manufactured by Serum Institute of India, were approved for restricted emergency use.

In the meantime, India’s daily Covid-19 cases fell below 19,000 for the fifth time this month, taking the country’s caseload to 1,04,13,417, while the recoveries surged to 1,00,37,398 in the last 24 hours. A total of 18,139 new infections were reported, while the deaths increased to 1,50,570 as 234 more people succumbed to the disease. The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 1,00,37,398, pushing the national recovery rate to 96.39%, while the Covid-19 case fatality rate stood at 1.45%. The active coronavirus caseload remained below three lakh for the 18th consecutive day.

Delhi reported 444 Covid-19 cases, including 823 recoveries, and 10 deaths in the last 24 hours. The total number of positive coronavirus cases rose to 6,29,282, with 6,14,849 discharges, and 10,654 fatalities so far. Active cases stand at 3779.

Maharashtra reported 3,693 new coronavirus cases, taking the tally of total positive rises to 19,61,975. With 73 deaths recorded in the last 24 hours, the fatality toll hiked to 49,970.

Uttarakhand reported 269 fresh Covid-19 cases, taking the total number of cases to 93,111. The death toll stands at 1,562, while 87,127 patients have recovered so far. There are 3179 active cases in the region.

A total of 346 new coronavirus cases, 397 discharges, and two deaths were reported in Telangana. The total count of positive cases stands at 2,89,135, including 5,000 active cases, and 2,82,574 recoveries.

At least 83 persons tested Covid positive, while 105 recovered from the infection in Goa. With this, the count of infections in the coastal state reached 51,709, of which 50,088 patients have recovered from Covid-19. As many as 744 people have died of the disease so far, and the state is now left with 877 active cases. 

Andhra Pradesh reported 319 fresh coronavirus cases, 308 recoveries, and one death. The cumulative confirmed positive cases so far touched 8,84,490 after 1.22 crore sample tests, with an overall infection positivity rate of 7.24%. The total recoveries stood at 8,74,531, and 7,127 deaths, leaving 2,832 active cases. 

Jharkhand’s Covid-19 tally mounted to 1,16,229 as 195 more people tested positive for the infection. The death toll rose to 1,041 as one person from Gumla succumbed to the disease in the last 24 hours.

Jammu and Kashmir’s coronavirus caseload climbed to 1,22,303, with 127 fresh infections, while the death toll mounted to 1,907 as four more people succumbed to the disease. Of the fresh cases, 85 were from the Jammu division and 42 from the Kashmir division of the union territory.
