Lok Sabha elections 2024 : Lakshadweep to witness triangular fight

In the upcoming Lok Sabha election in the union territory of Lakshadweep, a three-cornered contest is anticipated between the NCP led by Sharad Pawar, the Congress party, and the faction of NCP led by Ajit Pawar, which is supported by the BJP.

The current Lok Sabha member, Mohammed Faizal Padippura from NCP  will face competition from Muhammed Hamdulla Sayeed of the Congress party and Yusuf T P from NCP Ajit Pawar. The constituency, reserved for Scheduled Tribes, is set to go to the polls on April 19 in a single phase.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Mohammed Faizal Padippura emerged victorious with 22,851 votes, while Muhammed Hamdulla Sayeed of the Congress party secured 22,028 votes. Previously, Muhammed Hamdulla Sayeed had won the Lok Sabha polls in 2009 for the Congress party.

Yusuf TP, the candidate from NCP will contest the election with the backing of the BJP. The Lakshadweep constituency will have a total of 55 polling stations.

The general elections for all 543 Lok Sabha seats will take place in seven phases, beginning on April 19. Vote counting is scheduled for June 4. Approximately 97 crore voters are eligible to cast their votes across the country.
