Home Minister Amit Shah, conveyed his greetings to the personnel of Assam Rifles (AR) and their families on the occasion of its raising day on Sunday.

In his post on X, Shah said, “Greetings to the personnel of Assam Rifles and their family members on their raising day. The ever-vigilant and victorious force has stood as a bulwark, guarding the nation’s internal security in the Northeast and securing the people. Salute to the lion-heart soldiers who laid their lives for the motherland.”

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also conveyed his best wishes and highlighted the pivotal role played by the AR in preserving peace in the region.

“Greetings to all the personnel of The Assam Rifles, India’s oldest paramilitary service, on their Raising Day. Known as the ‘Sentinels of North East’, the force has played a crucial role in maintaining peace in the region & assisting people during times of need,” the Assam CM said.

Formed in 1835, the AR, is also known as militia called the ‘Cachar Levy’, has a longstanding history of service. Over the years, they have maintained a steadfast presence in some of the most remote and underdeveloped areas ensuring the safety of local residents.

Since its inception in 1960 with 17 battalions, the Assam Rifles has grown to 46 battalions, alongside establishing a training center and several logistics units.

With its enduring presence in tribal regions, the Assam Rifles has earned the trust of the local populace and played a crucial role in their seamless integration into the national framework.
