These 10 Cars Ruled The Indian Roads in 2023
Tata Motors has launched yet another electric car in the market. The Punch.ev is the first product from the brand be based on the all-new made-in-India Pure EV architecture called acti.ev, which stands for Advanced Connected Tech-Intelligent Electric Vehicle. According to the company, it is based on the pillars of Performance, Technology, Modularity, and Space Efficiency and consists of four layers – Powertrain, Chassis, Electrical Architecture and Cloud Architecture.
Design
The Punch EV is led by the new digital design approach, where the idea is to match EV modernity with an iconic look. Some smart lighting systems are a highlight on the car prominent among them being a smart charging indicator which is useful to indicate the SOC levels while the vehicle is charging. You also get bi-functional LEDs coupled with the central position lamp which come with a welcome and goodbye signature.
Interiors
This latest EV in town is loaded with features. It gets twin 10.25-inch screens, one being the full digital cluster and the other a touchscreen system. The 2-spoke steering wheel gets an illuminated logo like the Nexon SUV. You get wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay along with the app suite Arcade.ev which offers 17 apps for gaming, music and media. There are more than 200 voice commands in 6 languages, Alexa, Siri for Apple users and Google Assistant for Android users. The ZConnect Connected Car Technology with smartwatch connectivity is offered as standard.
Other features on the SUV include wireless charging, automatic headlamps, rain-sensing wipers and auto-dimming IRVM. You also get a 45 W type-C USB port for fast charging, front ventilated leatherette seats, an electric sunroof, mood lights and an air purifier with AQI display. The electric SUV gets 16-inch tyres, 190 mm ground clearance, 350 mm water wading capability, 366 litres of boot space and 14 litres of added space in the frunk.
Drive
The Punch.ev comes with two battery pack options. The 25 kWh battery gets a claimed range of 315 km while the bigger 35 kWh option offers 421 km range. While the 60 kW Permanent Magnet Synchronous AC Motor in the former makes 114 Nm, the higher version ensures 90 kW with 190 Nm, resulting in a 0 to 100 kmph sprint time of 9.5 sec and an electronically limited top speed of 140 kmph. The battery pack and motor are IP67 rated for protection from dust and water, with a warranty of 8 years or 1,60,000 km.
The Punch.ev Long Range is available with the option of a 3.3 kW and a 7.2 kW AC fast charger that can be installed either at home or at the workplace. With DC fast charging, it can be fast charged from 10% to 80% in 56 minutes from any 50 kW DC fast charger. The SUV comes with Paddle Shifters, which enables the 4-level Multi-Mode Regeneration and over-the-air software upgrade capabilities.
Safety
The SUV gets 6 Airbags, Electronic Stability Program, ISOFIX, Roll-over mitigation and Brake Disc Wiping as standard across all personas. You also get Electronic parking brake with Auto Hold, Disc brakes on all 4 wheels and a 360 surround view camera system with blind spot monitor in its high-end trims.
Prices
There are 5 trims or personas on offer on the Punch EV. Prices start at Rs. 10.99 lakh and go up to Rs. 14.49 lakh, ex-showroom and introductory. In case you want a sunroof and a 7.2 kW charger you will need to spend Rs. 1 lakh more on the top variant.
The lowest Smart and Smart+ personas are not available with the long range model of the SUV.
