As the Lok Sabha polls are set to be announced the two major parties in Tamil Nadu – the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and the Opposition, the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), have formed their respective committees for election work.
The DMK has appointed three committees – one for election work, the second for seat-sharing talks and third for party manifesto preparation.
Ministers KN Nehru, RS Bharathi, EV Velu, Thangam Thennarasu and Udhayanidhi Stalin will be part of the election campaign committee and work with the cadres at the grassroot level as well. MP Kanimozhi is leading the manifesto committee, which includes TKS Elangovan, AKS Vijayan, Palanivel Thiagarajan, TRB Raja, Govi Chezhian, KRN Rajeshkumar, CVMP Ezhilarasan, MM Abdullah, Ezhilan Naganathan and Chennai Mayor R Priya.
The committee involved with seat-sharing includes MP TR Baalu, KN Nehru, I Periyasamy, K Ponmudy, A Raja, Tiruchi Siva and MRK Panneerselvam.
AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami issued a statement which said that former ministers KP Munusamy, Dindigul C Srinivasan, P Thangamani, SP Velumani and P Benjamin, will be part of the seat sharing committee. Natham R Viswanathan, C Ponnaiyan, Pollachi V Jeyaraman, D Jayakumar, CVe Shanmugam, S Semmalai, P Valarmathi, OS Manian, RB Udhayakumar and Vaigai Selvan, who are also former ministers, will be in the manifesto preparation committee. AIADMK leaders like M Thambidurai, K A Sengottaiyan, N Thalavai Sundaram, Sellur K Raju, P Thanabal, K P Anbazhagan, R Kamaraj,S Gokula Indira, Udumalai Radhakrishnan and N R Sivapathy have been named as part of the election campaign committee. The party’s election advertising committee includes C Vijayabaskar, Kadambur C Raju, K T Rajenthira Bhalaji, Agri S S Krishnamoorthy, Dr P Venugopal, VPB Paramasivam, I S Inbadurai, S Abdul Rahim, VVR Raj Satyan and V M Rajalakshmi.
Both the DMK and AIADMK are expected to hit the ground running now that the committees have been formed.
The Chief Electoral Officer of Delhi has provided April 16, 2024 as a reference to plan poll related activities as per the Election Planner of the Election Commission of India.
