The capital city of Jaipur faced significant water supply disruption throughout Friday, causing distress among residents. The issue stemmed from a burst in the score valve of the 2300 mm pipeline connected to the Bisalpur Dam, which supplies water to Jaipur. The valve repair, undertaken by the water supply department, took nearly 30 hours, concluding at 4:15 pm on Friday.
Due to the prolonged repair work, the department dispatched water tankers to several areas for emergency water supply. A gathering of people ensued at these tanker locations, reflecting the severity of the water scarcity. The repair team had initiated a 24-hour shutdown from 9 am Thursday to 9 am Friday to facilitate the repair work. Despite the extended efforts, the completion was delayed, causing inconvenience to the public.
While the situation is expected to improve as Bisalpur water reaches all parts of the city through pipelines late at night, normal water supply is anticipated to resume from Saturday morning. The lack of information about the planned shutdown left many residents unprepared, leading to a shortage of stored water in households.
As a consequence, some residents sought water from private tanker operators at inflated prices, exacerbating the challenges faced by the public. The repair team worked diligently to address the issue, emphasizing that residents will experience a normalised water supply starting Saturday morning. The incident underscores the importance of effective communication regarding planned shutdowns to minimize the impact on residents.
