Rooster fight is an age old tradition in Andhra Pradesh celebrated on Sankranti, but this time it has gained concerns from the farmers. The inappropriate use of steroids and Viagra are being used in the breeding of roosters.

The farmers who play a key role in preparing the rooster for these traditional events are now themselves turned to show concerns over the misuse of performance-enhancing substances. The concern rounds on the ethical treatment of animals and the possible health risks posed by the use of steroids and Viagra in breeding.

The farmers are now urging collective efforts to hold back the sanity of the tradition.

Where in the one hand the farmers stand to voice against the misuse of steroids, on the other organizers of the rooster fight were found to have been tying blades in the legs of the rooster, and now it has sparked controversies among the animal activists.

Informing that such practices are indulged with only intention of winning the rooster fight. However, such practices are prohibited by the government. Tying the blade not only intensifies cruelty but also questions the well-being of animals.
