7 Karnataka Men Accused of Assaulting Interfaith Couple Now Face Rape Charges

In a shocking turn of events, the seven men who brutally assaulted an interfaith couple in a Karnataka lodge are now facing charges of rape, according to the police. The woman, who was present in the room with her companion during the assault, released a video alleging that the attackers subsequently took her to a secluded area and subjected her to sexual assault.

The woman’s distressing account revealed that after the initial assault in the forest, the perpetrators forced her into a car, where she was further violated by the driver. The ordeal continued as they drove her around the city before eventually dropping her off at a bus stop. In the video, she expressed her determination to see the attackers punished for their heinous actions.

State Home Minister G. Parameshwara emphasized that there are standard instructions in place to curtail incidents of moral policing, assuring that the law will take its course. Karnataka Director General of Police Alok Mohan affirmed a commitment to taking action against those who take the law into their hands, asserting the seriousness with which the case is being handled.

The police disclosed that the Muslim woman involved, who is married, had a relationship with the man she had checked into the hotel with. The attackers, evidently attempting to silence the couple, recorded videos of the assault to use as blackmail material.

The assailants, belonging to the minority community, strategically recorded their actions outside the lodge room in Hanagal Taluk, Haveri District. The disturbing footage captures the men barging into the room, physically assaulting the woman, and cornering her near the bed. The attackers also captured the room number, intensifying the gravity of the assault.

Out of the seven men involved, three from the minority community have been apprehended, shedding light on the swift action taken by the authorities against the accused. As the investigation unfolds, the incident underscores the urgent need to address and prevent such reprehensible acts of violence against vulnerable individuals. Karnataka’s Director General of Police and State Home Minister have both vowed to curb such incidents, citing standard instructions and a commitment to the rule of law.
