Chandigarh administration has declared an extension of school closures for classes up to VIII until January 14 due to persistent cold conditions. An official order released on Sunday afternoon stated, “Given the cold spell and anticipated dense fog in the region, all government, government-aided, and private schools in UT Chandigarh for classes up to VIII shall remain closed until 14.1.2024 (schools to reopen for these classes on 15.1). However, schools are encouraged to conduct online classes during this period.” Meanwhile, classes from IX to XII will adhere to the previously designated school timings.
North India grapples with plummeting temperatures during the winter season, prompting several states and regions to take similar measures. Notably, in Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan, both private and government schools have been instructed to remain closed for classes up to VII until January 14.
Adding to the closures, the Rajasthan government announced an extended winter break for primary school students, stretching holidays until January 13 for both private and public schools, with classes set to resume thereafter.
Earlier, the Haryana government had initiated a 15-day winter break commencing on January 1, 2024, scheduled to conclude on January 15. Schools are anticipated to reopen on January 16, 2024, following the conclusion of the winter break.
