The Chief Election Commission is set to publish the draft voter lists for 51,507 polling stations in the state on Saturday. Objections and claims will be accepted on Sunday, with special campaigns scheduled for January 21 at all centres.
Chief Electoral Officer Praveen Gupta announced that after the release of the integrated voter lists, electoral registration officers from 199 assembly constituencies will handle claims and objections. The window for claims and objections is from January 6 to 22, with resolutions expected by February 2. The final publication of voter lists is slated for February 8, 2024.
As of the draft publication on January 6, the state’s voter list includes a total of 5,27,12,843 registered voters, comprising 2,74,98,671 males, 2,52,14,172 females, and 1,41,839 service voters. The sex ratio in the voter lists stands at 921 compared to the estimated population’s 920, while the population voter ratio is 650. New voters in the 18 to 19 age group constitute 2.81%, with an overall sex ratio increase.
Gupta highlighted that the process of adding eligible voters aged 18 and above to the voter lists will commence on January 1, 2024. Additionally, individuals turning 18 on April 1, July 1, and October 1, 2024, can apply for inclusion during the format publication date. Citizens can use various online platforms, such as the Voter Helpline Mobile App, BLO App, and Voter Service Portal, to apply through Form-6 for inclusion, Form-7 for name deletion, and Form-8 for amendments, transfers, and duplicate voter ID cards. Gupta added that Form-8 allows voters to register their unique mobile numbers in the voter list, granting access to e-services and the ability to download e-epics.
