In honor of Savitribai Phule and Rani Velu Nachiyar’s inspiring contributions to society, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tributes to them on their birthdates. As per the Prime Minister, their courage and compassion inspired society, and their invaluable contribution to our country was acknowledged.
“Tributes to Savitribai Phule and Rani Velu Nachiyar on their Jayanti. Both of them inspired society with their compassion and courage. Their contribution towards our nation is invaluable. Here is how we paid tributes to them during the recent #MannKiBaat,” PM Modi said in a post on X.
PM Modi also shared some excerpts from Mann Ki Baat where he expressed his views about Savitribai Phule and Rani Velu Nachiyar.
Maharashtra-born Savitribai Phule was an Indian poet, educator, and social reformer. She is recognized as India’s first female educator. In addition to her spouse, Jyotirao Phule, she was a significant contributor to the advancement of women’s rights in India. She is recognized as Indian feminism’s founder. In 1848, Phule and her spouse established Bhide Wada, one of the first Indian girls’ schools in Pune. She fought to end unfair treatment and discrimination against individuals on the basis of gender and caste. She is considered a key player in the Maharashtra social reform movement. Phule was not only a prolific Marathi writer but also a philanthropist and educationist.
