The wrestling dispute in Charkhi Dadri shows no sign of abating, fueling political tensions as every faction weighs their political gains and losses. Amidst this, discussions are underway about reinstating accolades. BJP leader and wrestler Babita Phogat declined to comment on Vinesh Phogat’s decision to return the Khel Ratna and Arjuna Awards. She refrained from expressing any thoughts on the matter, considering Vinesh as her paternal cousin.
Babita Phogat avoided commenting on her sister Vinesh, evading the camera’s focus and merely stating she would respond when the time is right. On Tuesday evening, Vinesh announced on social media her decision to return the prestigious awards. She clarified that her decision aligned with the circumstances faced by Sakshi Malik and Bajrang Punia, emphasizing her desire for societal respect.
Backing the government’s action, Babita Phogat asserted the correctness of the government’s decision concerning the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) and wrestlers. She commended the Sports Ministry’s timely resolution in handling the WFI and wrestlers’ matters. Recently, the government revoked the newly formed Wrestling Federation of India committee.
The wrestling community’s internal rifts continue to brew, drawing political interest and showcasing the complexities within the realm of sports politics. With discussions ongoing and decisions made, the wrestling saga in Charkhi Dadri remains a focal point, combining sports, politics, and familial ties.
