‘Away in a Manger’ Transforms Dhoomimal Art Centre into a Christmas Wonderland

In a symphony of festive colors and artistic brilliance, Dhoomimal Art Centre welcomes art enthusiasts to the enchanting exhibition, “Away in a Manger,” infusing the holiday season with creative spirit. The grand preview earlier this December unfolded a captivating inauguration led by HE Dr. Phillip Ackermann, Ambassador of the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany, Mr. Mohit Jain, Director of Dhoomimal Art Centre, and Co-curator Georgina Maddox. The lighting of Christmas candles and the placement of ornaments marked the official commencement of this festive extravaganza.
Curated by Georgina Maddox and brought to life by the visionary Mohit Jain, owner of Dhoomimal Art Centre, “Away in a Manger” invites visitors to explore larger-than-life Christmas trees adorned with artistic ornaments crafted by over 40 leading artists from the modern and contemporary art world. The exhibition weaves a contemporary twist into the rich fabric of ornamentation, as master artists channel their creativity into unique Christmas-themed expressions.
HE Dr. Phillip Ackermann expressed his admiration for the exhibition, stating, “With Christmas ornaments, Indian art gets to travel all around the world. I’m glad to be a part of their history. What I appreciate about India is how they embrace various influences. This show is well curated, each piece crafted with finesse.”
Co-curator Georgina Maddox added, “Celebrating festivals in an art space underlines the plurality of our nation in a light-hearted and fun manner, without losing the essence of the festivities.”
“Away in a Manger” transcends being a conventional art exhibition; it’s an invitation to bring the spirit of Christmas into homes. Offering a unique opportunity to decorate living spaces with the work of master artists, the exhibition infuses joy and creativity into the holiday season. The event saw the presence of renowned artists and personalities, including Vasundhra Bruta, Princess Vaishnavi Kumari of Kishangarh, Miss Ratan Kaul, and Miss Shompa Sarkar, among others, adding a touch of starlight to the Christmas atmosphere.
The blend of tradition with contemporary art is evident throughout the exhibition, showcasing the collaborative efforts of artists who have breathed the spirit of Christmas into each unique piece. It’s a festive feast for the senses, promising not only to highlight the diversity of artistic talent but also to unravel the rich tapestry of Christmas traditions. The list of participating artists reads like a who’s who of the art world, including names like Arpana Caur, Farhad Hussain, Shabana Quadri, and many more, each contributing their unique perspective to this grand celebration. Don’t miss the chance to witness this contemporary masterpiece, where tradition meets modernity, and Christmas finds expression in the vibrant hues of artistic imagination.
