Tensions escalated as members of the Bharati Kisan Union Ekta Ugrahan clashed with law enforcement and civil authorities regarding the contentious Bharatmala Project. The farmers’ protest turned confrontational, resulting in heated exchanges between the protesting farmers and police and administrative officials.
Allegations surfaced from the farmers’ union, accusing authorities of attempting overnight land acquisitions for the Bharatmala Project. Around 150 farmers were reportedly detained by the police in response to these accusations.
Protesting farmers erected a robust roadblock on the Barnala Bajakhana Road and staged a sit-in on the Sahina Highway, creating a stand-off approximately 15 kilometres away. Police checkpoints were established to control the situation, potentially intensifying the already strained atmosphere.
The ongoing demonstration against the Bharatmala Project continues as farmers voice apprehensions regarding what they claim to be the forceful acquisition of their lands. The clash between farmers and law enforcement has heightened tensions in the region.
