Jennifer Morgan, Special Envoy for International Climate Policy of the German Government, said that the agreement reached at the end of the 28th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28) is “historic”, as it calls for tripling renewable energy by 2030.
In a statement to the Emirates news agency (WAM) during COP28, where ‘The UAE Consensus’ was announced, Jennifer Morgan, the German Climate Envoy, emphasized the agreement’s significance in accelerating global economic diversification. She highlighted the unprecedented start of COP28, underlining the operationalization of the Loss and Damage Fund. The UAE and Germany pledged US$100 million to mobilize the fund, triggering additional contributions that surpassed US$700 million.
Morgan regarded COP28’s conclusion on a hopeful note, citing a renewed commitment to climate action throughout the decade. She expressed optimism about this proactive approach, seeing it as a potential turning point in the ongoing battle against the escalating losses and damages caused by climate change.
