The increasing number of student suicides is alarming the country. These students took their lives due to the pressure of studies and other reasons. Yesterday, the state mourned the tragic suicide of two students. One was a 15-year-old girl from Kota and another one was a 14-year-old from Jaipur.
28th student suicide in Kota
The state, as well as the country, recognises Kota as a coaching hub, but in recent years, the increasing cases of suicide in Kota have raised concerns. Once again, such a case has come to light, where a 10th-grade student took her own life by hanging. This year, approximately 28 students preparing for NEET and JEE in Kota district have committed suicide. The incident occurred in Babu Colony, located in the Kunhari police station area of Kota district.
The police revealed that Urmila, a 15-year-old student in the 10th grade, was a regular student studying at a nearby school. When she returned home on Friday afternoon, her brother was there. Her father had gone to work, and her mother was not at home at that time. Afterwards, her brother also left the house, citing some work.
When the family members returned, it was discovered that Urmila was hanging from a noose. When she was taken to the hospital, the doctors declared her dead. The police are further investigating the matter.
Another horrific suicide on the same day
Another case of suicide by a school student, Chhotu, came to light in the capital city Jaipur. Before taking his own life, the student wrote a suicide note and kept it in his pocket.
Following the incident, the Shivdaspura police station in Jaipur reached the scene, conducted a post-mortem on the deceased, and handed over the body to the family.
Before the post-mortem in the hospital’s mortuary, doctors searched the deceased student Chhotu’s clothes. During the search, a suicide note was found in the pocket of his pants.
The father of the deceased said, “Both teachers used to mock his (Chhotu’s) language in front of other students. Due to this, he was mentally depressed. Considering it a normal incident in the school, I did not pay much attention to it.”
The father of the deceased filed a case of abetting suicide against two female teachers from the school based on the suicide note. The police have initiated an investigation based on the report filed by the father.
