Amidst the looming Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in Haryana, a flurry of activity surrounds the anticipation of a significant cabinet reshuffle in the state. Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, after consultations with Haryana BJP leaders and central figures, has met with the Governor, fueling speculations about an imminent shake-up within the cabinet.
Multiple factors seem to be driving this anticipated reshuffle. Among the primary reasons cited is the reported discord between Anil Vij and the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO). This internal conflict, coupled with a perceived need to create distance from the ruling alliance partner Jannayak Janata Party (JJP), has sparked talks of a cabinet realignment.
Sources suggest that displeasure expressed by the central leadership regarding the performance of several ministers in their respective departments might prompt Khattar to bring those departments under his direct control through ministerial changes.
Additionally, the government seems inclined to court independent MLAs to fortify its position. With seven independent MLAs currently supporting the government alongside the JJP, talks have circulated about potential shifts in alliances. These independent lawmakers have reportedly been engaging with party leaders, expressing a desire to be included in the government, thus exerting pressure to reconsider the existing alliance structure.
While there’s no concrete decision yet, the BJP seems to be eyeing fresh faces and talents in Haryana following the conclusion of elections in five states. However, indications suggest that while the BJP may not completely sever ties with the JJP, the reconfiguration might involve trimming the portfolios allocated to JJP MLAs.
