ZPM’s Lalduhoma Sworn In as Mizoram CM – What’s Next for the State?

Lalduhoma, the founder of the Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM), has officially taken the oath of office as the Chief Minister of Mizoram, in a significant political development. The oath was administered by Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati, capping off ZPM’s landslide victory in the state assembly elections.

On Thursday, Lalduhoma met with the governor to formally stake his claim to form the government. Following the oath-taking ceremony, he expressed gratitude to the people for their support and emphasized the new government’s priorities. Lalduhoma emphasized the importance of purchasing agricultural products, emphasizing the importance of supporting the state’s farmers.

Addressing the issue of Myanmar refugees in Mizoram, Lalduhoma reiterated that they are all Indian citizens, emphasizing unity. He revealed plans to discuss the matter with the Home Minister during his visit to Delhi, indicating a commitment to addressing regional concerns.

The ZPM’s remarkable victory saw them secure 27 out of 40 assembly constituencies, breaking the decades-old pattern of power alternating between the Mizo National Front (MNF) and the Congress in Mizoram. Lalduhoma’s journey, from being in charge of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s security detail to leading ZPM to this historic win, reflects his resilience and political acumen.

In a press conference following the swearing-in ceremony, Lalduhoma promised to announce the government’s top priorities. He expressed his happiness and thanked the people for their overwhelming support, citing their expectations from the previous year.

Lalduhoma, an IPS officer turned politician, started his political career in 1977 and served as a squad leader in Goa before entering mainstream politics. His achievements were recognized when he was elected from Mizoram’s lone Lok Sabha seat in 1984 as a Congress candidate. Subsequently, he founded the ZPM, which has now become a prominent force in Mizoram’s political landscape.

As Lalduhoma assumes the role of Chief Minister, his press conference is eagerly anticipated for insights into the ZPM government’s priorities and strategies for the state’s development. The political dynamics in Mizoram are poised for a transformation under his leadership.
