In an incident of deliberate desecration, individuals identified as alcohol consumers and drug addicts have tarnished the memorial site of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar located at Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Chowk. Members of the Scheduled Caste (SC) community, expressing their outrage in the absence of Superintendent of Police (SP) Haansi, lodged a complaint with Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Dheeraj Kumar.
Representatives of the community, including Rajat Kalsan, the coordinator of the National Alliance for Dalit Human Rights, and Vazir Singh, the leader of the Ambedkar Association, vented their anger in front of DSP Dheeraj Kumar. They conveyed that during the night, individuals consuming alcohol and narcotics engage in the consumption of liquor at the memorial site of Babasaheb. These individuals deliberately throw food items onto the memorial, purposely desecrating it. Moreover, the miscreants have damaged the garlands hanging around Babasaheb’s neck.
They expressed that these inebriated individuals intentionally throw leftover food onto the memorial site before leaving. Furthermore, they criticized the placement of large hoardings in the name of social workers, asserting that the SC community will not tolerate such actions.
DSP Dheeraj Kumar assured the representatives that prompt action would be taken in this matter. He immediately forwarded the complaint to the Shahar police station for swift investigation and action.
This incident underscores the need for vigilance and protection of public monuments and memorials, especially those dedicated to significant figures like Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. Such acts of deliberate desecration not only disrespect the memory of these leaders but also undermine the values they stood for. The local authorities must ensure the security and sanctity of such sites, taking appropriate measures to prevent any recurrence of such incidents.
