Dec 4: Counting day preparations in full swing in Mizoram

The Election Commission of India shifted the Mizoram assembly election vote counting to December 4. To ensure that the event goes off without a hitch, a lot of preparation has been done. Nearly 4000 personnel will be engaged in the counting of votes, as per the state election department.

The state department of elections reports that all necessary preparations have been made for the Monday counting. The Election Commission of India (ECI) announced on Friday that the Mizoram vote counting has been rescheduled on December 4. Numerous requests that the vote be counted on a day other than those that were initially suggested led to the revision.

The counting will take place in 40 counting halls and 13 centers spread throughout the state, as per the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Mizoram. 40 counting halls around the state will have 56 postal ballot tables and 399 EVM tables.

The ruling Mizo National Front (MNF) and the Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) were seen to be in a close race, according to earlier exit poll results from Mizoram. This prediction was also made by political observers.

However, both regional parties have maintained high hopes of securing an absolute majority to form Mizoram’s next government.

MNF led by Chief Minister Zoramthanga, ZPM led by former IPS officer Lalduhoma and Congress contested in all 40 assembly seats, while BJP contested in only 23 seats in the state.
