In recent days, farmers in Haryana appear to be displeased with Agriculture Minister J.P. Dalal. A viral statement on social media has sparked outrage, where Dalal is heard saying that the wives of those farmers against whom cases are filed, and whose contracts were taken by farmer leaders, don’t even listen to them at home. This statement has fueled anger and resentment among farmers, leading to protests everywhere.
He said “Some people used to sit here [on dharna]… they were facing criminal cases…had committed immoral/illegal acts. Some had their wives eloping with someone, some had daughters running away.” sparks outrage among protesting farmers.
Today, leaders of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (Tikait faction) gathered at the Karnal district secretariat, expressing strong opposition and slogans against the BJP and Agriculture Minister J.P. Dalal. The farmers demand that the Agriculture Minister should be dismissed from the BJP for his controversial statements. They argue that such statements do not befit someone holding such a position. The farmers submitted a memorandum to the district administration officials, calling for the removal of the Agriculture Minister. The atmosphere is tense, and it remains to be seen how the situation unfolds in the coming days regarding the farmers’ response to these statements and the stance of the BJP party. The opposition is critical of the Agriculture Minister’s statement. Kiran Chaudhary, a senior leader of the Congress, posted on social media, expressing deep shame over the Agriculture Minister’s remarks towards sisters, daughters, and farmer brothers in the state. Such language is unbecoming of any politician. This is not the first time; previously, during the farmers’ protest, he made a similar statement regarding the deaths of farmers who chose to die according to their will. There is no empathy for those who died in the struggle for their rights. His words were as piercing as arrows for the families of the 750 martyred farmers. The Agriculture Minister, in his arrogance, seems to have forgotten that those who sit on the throne can be brought down swiftly. The day of accountability is not far, as he repeatedly disrespects the public, farmer brethren, and women in the name of pride. The time for reckoning may be approaching sooner than expected.
