Jambu Zoo Nagrota roared to life with excitement as Chief Secretary Dr Arun Kumar Mehta visited the facility to witness the grand arrival of majestic big cats, marking a momentous event for wildlife enthusiasts and conservationists.
The zoo proudly welcomed a Tiger and tiger from Chennai, Tamil Nadu, and a Lion and Lioness from Gujarat, introducing a new dimension to the diverse wildlife population.
During his comprehensive tour of the facility, Dr. Mehta actively inquired about the care and facilities provided for the animals, emphasizing the importance of ensuring their well-being. Expressing optimism, he stated, “I hope that Jambu Zoo will soon be recognized among the best zoos in the country.”
Jammu, currently undergoing significant on-ground changes and rapid development, sees Jambu Zoo as a key attraction, according to Dr. Mehta. Assessing the situation, he identified the opportunity to boost visitor numbers and emphasized the need to increase awareness among school children and nature enthusiasts about the unique features and behaviour of the zoo’s diverse inhabitants.
The Chief Secretary expressed that Jambu Zoo looks forward to a future where it not only stands as a symbol of wildlife conservation but also captivates the hearts of visitors through its uniqueness.
Dr. Mehta highlighted the distinct features and prime location of the zoo, emphasizing that visitors coming to Jammu City and Katra will play a pivotal role in increasing footfall.
Accompanying Dr. Mehta during his visit were the Principal Secretary of Forest, Ecology and Environment, Dheeraj Gupta, the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, the Chief Wild Life Warden, the Zoo Manager, and other relevant departmental officers.
The arrival of these majestic big cats adds to the allure of Jambu Zoo, positioning it as a destination not only for wildlife enthusiasts but also as a hub for wildlife conservation and education.
