On Monday night, around 9 PM, near the Fun Republic Mall, two assailants on a bike attempted to snatch a woman’s purse and gold chain. When the woman resisted, the attackers pushed her, causing her to fall on the road, and forcibly took away her purse and some valuables. The woman sustained serious injuries. Hearing the commotion, passersby chased the assailants, apprehending one while the other managed to escape. While fleeing, the attackers threw the woman’s purse and chain on the road, which was later seized by the police. The apprehended assailant is reported to be a minor, and the police are currently verifying his age. The victim, identified as Chandni (26), has been admitted to Civil Hospital in Manimajra, and her condition is said to be critical. Due to severe head injuries, she will undergo a CT scan at GMCH-16. The police state that they do not have much information about the woman yet, as she is currently undergoing treatment. The incident occurred while she was on her way from somewhere. Meanwhile, the assailants first attempted to snatch her purse from behind, but when she resisted, they tried to snatch her gold chain from her neck. However, they were unsuccessful. When Chandni refused to let go of her purse, the assailants pushed her and attempted to drag her to make her release the purse. In the process, they also snatched her purse and tried to escape on their bike. However, a passerby named Himanshu Sharma followed the assailants from the Fun Republic to behind the NSCI showrooms, where he caught one of them. The other managed to escape. While running away, the assailants threw the woman’s purse and chain on the road. The police seized the bike and the apprehended assailant. The police, along with DSP P. Abhinandan and SHO Ramdayal of Manimajra Police Station, reached the spot upon receiving the information. The police state that further action will be taken based on the woman’s statement.
