Samba Police, under the vigilant leadership of Senior Superintendent of Police Benam Tosh, achieved a significant breakthrough by apprehending a fake Army Colonel attempting to commit rape on a girl within the jurisdiction of Police Station Vijaypur.
The arrested individual is identified as Sham Lal, son of Shanker Dass, residing in Keso Manhasan, Tehsil Ramgarh, district Samba, with an address at Shiv Nagar, Vijaypur.
A case (FIR No.160/2023) has been registered at Police Station Vijaypur under sections 376/511,419 IPC, and an ongoing investigation is underway.
According to the complaint, the accused deceitfully impersonated an Army Colonel, enticing young siblings—a girl studying in the 12th class and her brother, a 10th class student—from Udhampur district to Vijaypur. He falsely assured them of NCC enrollment and subsequent recruitment in the belt force. The accused even evaluated their running stamina along the Vijaypur-Ramgarh road. In a harrowing incident, he attempted to commit rape on the girl at midnight. The brave victim raised an alarm, approached the Police Station, and filed a complaint. Promptly responding to the situation, the Police registered an FIR, initiated an immediate investigation, and successfully apprehended the accused.
The arrest was made by a dedicated police team led by SHO Police Station Vijaypur, Sandeep Charak, under the supervision of SDPO Vijaypur Rohit Kumar and Additional SP Samba Surinder Choudhary. Under the guidance of Senior Superintendent of Police Benam Tosh, Samba Police have arrested a total of 153 hardcore criminals in the past ten months. Stringent legal actions are being taken against criminals, miscreants, and elements contributing to public disorder in the district, demonstrating the commitment of the police force to maintaining law and order.
