5.6 magnitude quake hits Nepal, tremors felt in north India

An earthquake of 5.6 magnitude struck west Nepal on Monday, and strong tremors were felt in parts of north India, the National Centre for Seismology said.
The earthquake caused panic, particularly in Delhi and the surrounding areas of the National Capital Region, with reports of furniture shaking vigorously.
The National Center for Seismology (NCS), on X (formerly Twitter), reported that the earthquake struck Nepal’s western region at 4:16 PM IST on November 6, with a depth of 10 km, situated at a latitude of 28.89 and a longitude of 82.36. The earthquake’s epicenter was located 233 km north of Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh.
It’s worth noting that Nepal is prone to earthquakes due to its location in one of the world’s most active tectonic zones, which are classified as seismic zones IV and V. This makes the country highly susceptible to seismic activity. Just a few days before this recent earthquake, Nepal experienced a devastating 6.4 magnitude earthquake, the most powerful since 2015, resulting in the loss of lives and extensive damage to homes in the mountainous region of the Himalayan nation.
