Giorgia Meloni, the prime minister of Italy, arrived in New Delhi on Friday to take part in the G20 Summit, which will be held on September 9 and 10 under India’s Presidency. Meloni was greeted at the airport by Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Shobha Karandlaje. Meloni traveled to India in early March to take part in the eighth Raisina Dialogue. She met privately with PM Modi in New Delhi during her stay. The two leaders decided to upgrade the relationship between India and Italy to a strategic partnership.

Ancient civilizations India and Italy have traded with one another for more than 2000 years. Italy and India began to have formal political ties in 1947. The newly opened Bharat Mandapam at Pragati Maidan in the nation’s capital is where the G20 Summit is taking place. On December 1 of last year, India took over as G20 president, and 60 cities across the nation hosted 200 G20 meetings. The G20 Summit is being held under India’s presidency for the first time.

The Group of Twenty (G20) was established in 1999 to include middle-income nations and preserve financial stability globally. The G20 is the most important platform for global economic cooperation. On all significant international economic issues, it plays a significant role in forming and strengthening the global architecture and governance. Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, United Kingdom, United States, and the European Union are among the 19 nations that make up the G20 grouping.

More than 80% of the world’s GDP, 75% of its trade, and 60% of its population are currently represented by G20 members. The 18th G20 Heads of State and Government Summit, which will take place in New Delhi, will be the culmination of all the G20 processes and gatherings of ministers, senior officials, and civil societies that took place throughout the year.
