The authorities have taken Punam Anand Shikharwar (36), a resident of Gudadhe layout, into custody in connection with the gruesome killing. The official spokesperson confirmed that the tragic incident occurred on Saturday.
Punam had been grappling with a severe mental disorder for some time and had previously been under medication for her condition. However, in the recent weeks, she had discontinued her prescribed medications and engaged in heated disputes with her family members.
In a shocking and violent outburst, the accused suddenly turned on her elderly mother-in-law, Taradevi, wielding a sharp weapon with fatal intent. She inflicted grievous harm on the defenseless woman, mercilessly slitting her throat and subjecting her to multiple stab wounds, according to the official account.
Residents residing nearby became aware of the distressing situation and swiftly alerted the local police. Responding to the call, law enforcement officials promptly dispatched the victim’s body for a post-mortem examination, shedding further light on the tragedy.
