J&K: Local women in Baramulla celebrate Raksha Bandhan with soldiers

Local women at Churanda village in the Uri sector on the Line of Control (LoC) turned out in large numbers to celebrate the enduring sibling bond with Army jawans, continuing a tradition that has developed for Raksha Bandhan every year.

On the eve of Raksha Bandhan, the local women were seen tying rakhis on the wrists of the jawans in an effort to foster a closer bond and sense of community with the men in uniform. The Raksha Bandhan festival is an opportunity to put an end to the hostilities and celebrate sibling love despite the frequent firefights between opposing forces along the LoC. Armed forces personnel who are stationed in border regions far from their homes and loved ones reaffirm their commitment to upholding public safety as they are tied with rakhis.
