IMD issued ‘yellow’ alert for Mumbai, predicts heavy rainfall

Heavy rains in Mumbai on Thursday caused waterlogging in various districts, traffic bottlenecks on most arterial roads, and delays in both Western and Central Railways suburban train services.

The India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) Mumbai centre issued a ‘yellow’ alert for Mumbai on Friday, anticipating heavy rain in isolated areas.

On Thursday, the department issued a ‘red’ alert for Mumbai and the nearby Raigad district, expecting “heavy to very heavy rainfall in a few places and extremely heavy rainfall in isolated places.”

After many days of heavy rain in Mumbai and its suburbs, the intensity of the rain decreased on Friday, with the city seeing only isolated periods of moderate to heavy rain until lunchtime.
