Nearly 3,000 AIIMS researchers risk job loss, stage protest

Nearly 3,000 researchers at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) face a potential threat to their jobs, prompting a protest against the AIIMS Director today.
This uncertainty has been ignited by a letter from the Ministry of Health to AIIMS, proposing a significant policy shift. The letter suggests that no researcher will be allowed to conduct research on a temporary basis for more than six years at the institution.
An exception to this proposed rule would be made only for those involved in core research. Those researchers could potentially continue their work beyond the six-year mark.
In response to this decree, the Society of Young Scientists (SYS) has voiced strong opposition. They have expressed their discontent directly to the AIIMS Director, staging a protest to highlight their concerns. This abrupt policy shift has the potential to disrupt the future of countless researchers who have dedicated years to their respective fields of study at AIIMS. Their fate now hangs in the balance, stirring unease amongst the research community and sparking actions of dissent.
