Hitting the ground running even before taking over as State BJP President, Senior leader and former Member of Parliament (MP) Sunil Jakhar on Monday visited the flood-affected areas of Kharar to take stock of the situation first-hand. He cautioned the state government to prepare for the worst as with rains not showing any signs of abating situation was fast turning grim in certain areas. Appealing to the state Government to ensure all possible help and succour to those in need, Jakhar said “Lakhs of our citizens are bearing the brunt of incessant rains lashing the state and many of them are in danger of losing their lives’ savings which should be a cause of serious concern. I have requested the administration to immediately put in place evacuation plans and ration to ferry people stuck in waters to safer places in case of heavy downpour in the coming days.” Alternate accommodation plans must be in place to ensure timely evacuation, he underlined.
The BJP State president, during his visit to flood affected area, was accompanied by Senior leaders including Balbir Singh Sidhu, Gurprit Singh Kangar, and Arvind Khanna, besides District President Sanjeev Vashist, State Secretary Parminder Brar, and Kamal Seni. People here in Kharar have expressed genuine fear of losing their homes and valuables, for they have been issued notices by the administration to vacate their houses in low-lying areas, Jakhar further said adding the Administration must ensure the safety of their belongings once they leave their houses until the situation normalises. Making clear that this was no time to find faults and it was imperative that all come together to ensure the safety of all citizens, the Senior BJP leader called upon all political parties to rise above parochial interests and safeguard our citizens in the wake of this grave situation which if not dealt with properly now might turn very ugly for our residents at the centre of this tragedy. It is time to remain alert and be ready to meet any exigency with full preparation, Jakhar said urging all BJP cadre to coordinate with local authorities and do everything to help those in need in each and every manner.
