Ujjwal Nagar and Sulagna Roy shine at 20th quarterly baithak of Pracheen Kala Kendra

The 20th episode of Pracheen Kala Kendra’s, quarterly baithak was organized at Triveni Kala Sangam recently. Young and talented classical singer Ujjwal Nagar and Kathak danseuse Sulagna Roy mesmerized the audience with their amazing performances. The Secretary of the Kendra Mr. Sajal Koser was also present on the occasion.
The programme commenced with the performance of singer Ujjwal Nagar. Ujjwal Nagar is the son of renowned Kathak Guru Urmila Nagar. He has received intensive music lessons from Ustad Bashir Ahmed. Currently Ujjwal is learning the nuances of classical music from Pandit Shriram Umedkar and Pandit Somnath Mardur. Along with being a graded artist of All India Radio, he has also obtained doctorate degree in classical music. He also has a bright mastery in playing the Tabla. He has performed in various prestigious events in India and abroad.
After the traditional alap, Ujjwal chose a composition in Raag Jog Kauns which was studded with Ektalwith bols ‘Sughar Bar Paiyo’ which was well received by the audience. After this, Ujjwal doled out with composition, ‘Pir Parai Jaane Nahi Balamwa’ and won the hearts of the audience with his excellent singing. At the end of the program, he presented another composition ‘Jagat Hai Samjh Sapna’ composed in a drut Ek taal. He was ably accompanied by Lalit Sisodia on Harmonium and Balram Sisodia on Tabla.
After the soulful performance by Ujjawal, Sulagna Roy took the centre stage. Sulagna Roy and her disciples presented Kathak dance performances.
Sulagna Roy, a young Kathak danseuse has received Kathak training from Kathak Kendra under Guru Jaikishan Maharaj. Sulagna is a seasoned Kathak dancer. She has performed in many prestigious festivals all over India.
Students of Sulagna Roy who are taking training in affiliated centre of the Kendra presented Veda Mantra at the 20th quarterly baithak. This was followed by Krishnajanli in which the students showcased Krishna bhajan ‘Laaj Bachao Krishna Murari’. After this, Guru Vandana was presented by the students through kathak syllables. Taking the programme forward Bhakti Sudha which was based on the famous Ram Bhajan ‘Shri Ramchandra Kripalu Bhajman’ was showcased. After this Tarana was presented in Jhaptal succeeded with Pure Kathak by Sulagna Roy as she performed tode tukde paran , gat ladi etc. All the dance performances were presented by Sulagna and her dance group was highly appreciated by the audience. After this, Sulagna presented a Bhav Paksha based presentation with Thumri “Ghar Aaye Ghir Aaye” amidst huge applause. Pracheen Kala Kendra, an organization dedicated to the promotion, dissemination and promotion of Indian Classical art and culture for the last more than six decades.
