India’s recoveries now 6.3 times more than active Covid cases: Health Ministry

The country reported 78,524 fresh Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, taking the total number to 68.35 lakh. The country recorded 971 deaths in the last 24 hours, taking the death count to 1,05,526. 

According to the health ministry, “India’s Covid-19 recoveries have witnessed a steep exponential rise- from 50,000 in May to over 57 lakh in October. More than 75,000 recoveries are reported every day. Recoveries are 6.3 times the active cases (currently only 13.4% of total cases).” 

India’s worst affected state Maharashtra reported 13,395 new Covid-19 cases, taking its tally to 14,93,884, while the death toll rose to 39,430 after 58 more patients succumbed to the infection. A total of 15,575 patients were discharged from hospitals, taking the tally of recovered people to 12,12,016. The state now has 2,41,986 active cases.

 Mumbai city reported 2,823 positive cases in the last twentyfour hours, which pushed its overall count to 2,22,784, while its toll rose to 9,296 with the death of 48 more patients. 

The national capital saw the spike of 2,726 fresh cases which crossed the three-lakh mark, while the death toll due to the disease mounted to 5,653 with 37 fatalities recorded in the last 24 hours. The case tally stands at 3,00,833 in the national capital including 2,72,948 patients who have so far recovered.

 The number of active cases currently is 22,232. Looking at the tally of the other states, Madhya Pradesh recorded 1,715 new coronavirus cases in the last twenty-four hours which pushed its caseload to 1,42,022. With 29 fatalities, the death toll reached 2,547. Punjab reported 29 more deaths due to coronavirus, pushing the total death toll to 3,741, while the infection count reached 1,21,716 with 930 new cases in the last 24 hours.

 Haryana’s death toll rose to 1,548 with 20 more fatalities being reported in a single day, while 1,284 fresh cases took the infection tally to 1,38,682. India’s largest populous state Uttar Pradesh recorded 3,376 new coronavirus patients in the last twenty-four hours, taking the infection tally to 4,27,459. The day saw 45 more people losing the battle against the virus, taking total fatalities to 6,245.

 Gujarat reported 1278 new Covid-19 cases, 1266 discharges, and 10 deaths in the last 24 hours. Total cases in the state rose to 1,47,951 including 1,27,923 discharges, and 3541 deaths. Active cases stand at 16,487.

 Andhra Pradesh added another 5,292 coronavirus cases the last twenty-four hours to its tally, taking it to 7.39 lakh. It also saw another 6,102 patients recovering from the infection, making it a total of 6.84 lakh. 

Jammu and Kashmir reported 696 new Covid-19 cases, 1,336 recoveries, and nine deaths in the last 24 hours, taking the total tally in the Union Territory to 81,793 including 69,020 recoveries, and 1,291 deaths. Active cases stand at 11,482. 

Tamil Nadu reported 5088 new Covid-19 cases, 5718 discharges, and 68 deaths in the last 24 hours. Total cases in the state rose to 6,40,943 including 5,86,454 discharges, and 10,052 deaths.

 Neighbouring state Kerala recorded 5,445 new Covid-19 positive cases in the last twenty-four hours. There are 90,579 active cases in the state, and 1,67,256 people have recovered from the infection till date.
