Japan: PM Modi To Unveil Mahatma Gandhi Statue in Hiroshima

During his three-day visit to Japan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will unveil a statue of Mahatma Gandhi in Hiroshima. PM Modi expressed his anticipation for the G7 Summit, where he plans to exchange views on global challenges and the collective efforts required to address them.

In a statement, PM Modi mentioned his scheduled bilateral meetings with leaders attending the Hiroshima G7 Summit, including Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, whom he looks forward to meeting. The city of Hiroshima holds historical significance as it was targeted in the world’s first nuclear attack on August 6, 1945, resulting in the loss of approximately 140,000 lives and widespread destruction. As part of the Summit itinerary, PM Modi and other world leaders will pay homage to the victims by visiting a peace memorial in Hiroshima. The statue of Mahatma Gandhi, to be unveiled by PM Modi, symbolizes a message of peace, reflecting Gandhi’s belief that non-violence is the key to saving the world.

Following his visit to Japan, PM Modi will travel to Port Moresby in Papua New Guinea to co-host the third summit of the Forum for India-Pacific Islands Cooperation (FIPIC) on May 22, alongside Prime Minister James Marape.
