Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while addressing a programme for the launch of projects in Uttarakhand under the Namami Gange scheme on Tuesday, accused the Opposition of always protesting against reforms initiated by his government throughout the span of last six years “only for the sake of opposing”.
“On India’s initiative, when the whole world was celebrating International Yoga Day, these people sitting in India were opposing it. Even when the tallest statue of Sardar Patel was being unveiled, there was opposition. Till date, no major leader has gone to the Statue of Unity. Four years ago, the country’s soldiers carried out surgical strikes and destroyed the bases of terror. But these people were asking for evidence of surgical strikes. By opposing the surgical strike, these people have cleared their intention before the country,” the PM added.
PM Modi also accused the Opposition of blocking legal resolution to the Ram Mandir issue and then also the Bhoomi pujan (groundbreaking ceremony) which was held last month.
“Last month, Bhoomi pujan was done for the construction of the grand Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. These people were first against Ram Mandir in the Supreme Court and then started opposing Bhoomi pujan. With every changing date, their protest is becoming irrelevant,” the Prime Minister said.
Last month, Opposition parties, including the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), have opposed three Acts— Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act-2020; Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement of Price Assurance and Farm Services Act-2020; and, Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020— which were passed by Parliament and turned into law on President Ram Nath Kovind’s affirmation.
“During this lockdown, the country has seen how the Digital India campaign, Jan Dhan bank accounts have helped people. When our government started this work, there were protests. If bank accounts of poor people are being opened, they should also do digital transactions, but there were people who have always opposed it. Today, even when the Central government is giving the farmers their rights, these people have come down on protest. They just want that the farmers of the country are not able to sell their produce in the open market and are now insulting the farmers by setting fire on the goods and equipment that the farmers worship,” PM Modi said.
“Major reforms have been made related to the farmers, workers and health of the country. These reforms will empower the country’s workers, empower the youth of the country and also the women and farmers of the country. But today the country is seeing how some people are protesting only up for protests. With challenges related to water, this ministry is now engaged in the mission of delivering water to every house in the country. Today, about 1 lakh families are being connected to pure drinking water facilities every day under the Jalajeevan Mission. Drinking water has been delivered to 2 crore families of the country in just one year,” PM Modi said.
