Uddhav Thackeray, the leader of the Shiv Sena (UBT), urged on Friday that Rahul Narwekar, the speaker of the Maharashtra Assembly, take decision on the disqualification of 16 MLAs at the earliest
He made the claim the day after the Supreme Court gave its verdict on the political crisis of the previous year, which led to the fall of the three-party Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government he led as a result of Eknath Shinde’s uprising and subsequent alliance with the BJP to become the chief minister.
Anil Parab, a member of Thackeray’s party, announced that they would write to Speaker Nawerkar to urge him to make a decision as soon as possible.
“The gift of life to the 16 MLAs is temporary because the Supreme Court has given a reasonable time and it has limitations. The Speaker must take his decision at the earliest,” Thackeray said.
The Supreme Court declared on Thursday that it cannot reinstate the Thackeray-led MVA administration since he resigned in June of last year without undergoing a floor test. It has requested that the Speaker take a decision regarding the disqualification of 16 MLAs within a reasonable period.
The court further said that it was unlawful for the Speaker to appoint Bharat Gogawale of the Shinde faction as the Shiv Sena’s whip in the Assembly.
