Italy: Vehicle transporting oxygen gas canisters explodes in Milan, one injured

A van that seemed to be transporting oxygen gas canisters exploded in the streets of Milan on Thursday setting nearby vehicles ablaze and injuring one person.

In a statement followed by the incident, the city’s Mayor, Giuseppe Sala, ruled out foul play. He also revealed that no-one had died in the incident. The Mayor also reveals that the van driver himself called the Fire Brigade and informed them that fire has started in his vehicle’s engine.

The Mayor told the media that “He quickly grabbed the oxygen cylinders he was carrying. He tried to limit the damage but then there was an explosion.” He furthermore told that the driver had also sustained some light injuries.

The firefighters instantly extinguished the blaze. According to various witnesses the blaze has spread to nearby buildings which was later evacuated.
