India breaches 60-lakh mark with single-day spike of 82k Covid cases

India’s coronavirus tally crossed the 60-lakh mark on Monday after 82,170 new cases were reported across the country in the last 24 hours. Globally, India now has the second-highest number of coronavirus cases just behind the United States where infections crossed 7 million last week. Global Covid-19 cases topped 33 million and the official death toll from Covid-19 neared one million. As many as 9.96 lakh patients have succumbed to the infection around the world. 

As many as 1,039 deaths were reported in India in the past 24 hours, pushing the death toll to 95,542. Of the 60,74,703 cases, India currently has 9,62,640 active cases, while 5,01,6521 people have been discharged.Country’s worst affected state Maharashtra reported 11,921 fresh cases of Covid-19 and 180 deaths in the last 24 hours. Over 19,932 patients were discharged after recovery in the past 24 hours. Recovery rate in the state stands at 77.71 percent.

 The national capital reported 37 deaths and 1,984 fresh positive cases in the last 24 hours. The total number of Covid-19 cases now stands at 2,73,098 including 2,40,703 recoveries, 27,123 active cases and 5,272 deaths.Haryana reported 24 more Covid-19 fatalities taking the death toll to 1,331 while with 1,630 fresh cases, the total infection count in the state rose to 1,25,412. Neighbouring state Punjab reported 1,271 new Covid-19 cases, 2,033 recoveries, and 46 deaths in the last 24 hours, taking total positive cases to 1,11,375, including 90,345 discharges, 3,284 deaths, and 17,746 active cases.

 Uttar Pradesh’s Covid-19 death count rose to 5,652 with 58 more fatalities, while the infection tally reached 3,90,875 after 3,838 people tested positive for the disease. So far, 3,31,270 Covid-19 patients have been cured and the recovery rate stands at 84.75 percent. Gujarat reported as many as 1,404 fresh cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours, taking its tally to 134,623. Meanwhile, 12 persons also died across the state during the same period, taking the toll to 3,431. In the time span of 24 hours 1,336 persons were discharged from hospitals, taking the number of recovered cases to 114,476. West Bengal recorded 3,155 new coronavirus cases, 2,923 recoveries and 56 deaths in the last 24 hours, taking total cases to 2,50,580 including 2,19,844 recoveries, 4,837 deaths and 25,899 active cases. Andhra Pradesh reported 5,487 fresh cases of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours while 7,210 patients were discharged after recovery from hospitals. The Covid-19 death count in the last 24 hours was 37, a significant drop over the past few days.

 Karnataka reported 6,892 new Covid-19 cases, 7,509 discharges and 59 deaths in the span of the last twenty four hours, taking total cases to 5,82,458 including 4,69,750 discharges and 8,641 deaths. Number of active cases stands at 1,04,048. Kerala reported 4,538 new Covid-19 cases, 3,347 recovered cases and 20 deaths in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of positive cases in the state till date to 1,79,922, including 57,879 cases and 697 deaths. The test positivity rate is 12.59 percent in the state.
