Umashankar Singh, a BSP MLA, stated that his party wants Shaista Parveen, the widow of murdered gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed, to run for mayor for the Mayoral elections in Prayagraj.
According to him, Shaista Parveen has not been implicated in the murder of Umesh Pal, a crucial witness in the death of BSP leader Raju Pal. Atiq Ahmed was detained in connection with the twin murder cases and sent from Ahmedabad to UP on transit remand.
Shaista Parveen was forced to join the party and they also wanted her to run for mayor of Prayagraj. According to the BSP MLA, neither the administration nor the police have produced any videos that indicate Shaista being involved in the event, the BSP MLA told reporters there.
