On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated new Integrated Terminal Building (Phase-1) of Chennai International Airport.
PM Modi was in Chennai to inaugurate a number of development projects. During the occasion, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin and Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia were present at Chennai International Airport.
The state-of-the-art terminal, which spans 1,36,295 square meters, will enhance passenger serving capacity from 23 to 30 million passengers per annum (MPPA) and will be a vital addition to the city’s infrastructure.
It is expected to assist the local economy as well as improve connectivity.
Skylight is one of the terminal’s distinguishing elements. This design allows natural light to be gathered and used to illuminate the interior of the structure.
“This reduces energy consumption while making a space feel enlivening and airy,” an official explained.
The new terminal is a stunning expression of the local Tamil culture, with traditional elements like the Kolam (a pattern or design drawn in front of South Indian residences), sarees, temples, and other elements that highlight the natural surroundings.
The Integrated Terminal Building at Chennai Airport was built at a cost of Rs 1,260 crore, according to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO). The installation of this new Integrated Terminal building will expand the airport’s passenger service capacity from 23 to 30 million passengers per annum (MPPA).
Prime Minister Modi previously stated in a tweet that the Integrated Terminal will improve connectivity while also benefiting the local economy.
