Both Houses of Parliament were adjourned on Monday amid protests by the Opposition parties, demanding an investigation into the Adani issue.

Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha resumed after a four-day break.

Before the adjournment of Parliament, members paid tribute to Pune’s MP Girish Bhalchandra Bapat, who died recently.

Several Opposition MPs were spotted in black clothes in Parliament as well.

The Upper House was adjourned after incessant sloganeering by the Opposition leaders. They were demanding a joint parliamentary committee on the Adani-Hindenburg matter.

Earlier, Congress MPs were seen busy planning their approach ahead of disqualified Congress MP Rahul Gandhi’s appeal against his conviction in a defamation case.

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge said, “We can’t argue over the court’s verdict, but we can fight against the Central government.” They (Centre) don’t want to form a JPC in the Adani row. They don’t want to see House in action.

Former Wayanad MP is likely to land the Surat court at around 3 pm to file an appeal in the Sessions court in Surat, and the party has been hoping that court will take the matter today itself.

Rahul Gandhi was sentenced to a two-year jail term by the Surat Court on 23 March in a defamation case over his remark on the Modi surname during the 2019 Lok Sabha election campaign in Karnataka.
